Allan Ross, independent financial adviser in Ware achieves SOLLA accreditation

In March 2020 Allan Ross, independent Lonsdale Wealth Management financial adviser in Ware, Hertfordshire achieved the Later Life Adviser Accreditation (LLAA) and became a member of the Society of Later Life Planners (SOLLA), which gives independent recognition of his skills and experience in working with and understanding the needs of older people and their families.

SOLLA was established in 2008 as a not for profit organisation dedicated to higher standards and accessibility to regulated financial advice for older people and their families.  

According to the SOLLA website ‘Achieving the Later Life Adviser Accreditation (LLAA) and becoming a member of the Society is an endorsement of your skills and experience of working with, and understanding the needs of, older people and their families and carers. It is widely recognised as the Gold Standard in later life financial advice. Those advisers who have taken the further step to become independently accredited can offer the added reassurance that they can give the practical help and guidance needed to help you make the right decisions at the right time.’

SOLLA Accredited advisers can advise on the following:

• Retirement Planning – pensions and annuities
• Funding for Care Home fees
• Funding for care in your own home
• Savings and investment planning
• Tax matters and estate planning and wealth planning

The accreditation process was particularly thorough and the process to gain accreditation took many months.  In my SOLLA application I had to send evidence of my competent status, financial & long-term care qualifications, statement of professional standing, relevant suitability reports and continuing professional development work. I also had to provide examples of how Lonsdale Wealth Management supported me with my initiatives to assist older clients.  Once my application was reviewed, I had an assessment, a one-to-one interview with an independent auditor, which lasted approximately 90 minutes, where we discussed my application in more detail and a client case study scenario.’
