Conor McClean completes London marathon for Alzheimer’s Society

On Sunday 23rd April, Conor McClean our independent financial adviser in St Albans completed the London Marathon in a respectable 4 hours and 23 minutes. Conor was fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society and raised almost £3,000. Conor’s fundraising page is still open.

Conor McClean, financial adviser in St Albans, Hertfordshire said:
‘I set out to complete a marathon because it is a completely different challenge to anything I have done before. I spend most of my weekends playing rugby for Harpenden first XV, so running was a new challenge. Before I ran the London Marathon, I hadn’t ever run more than a half marathon so I wasn’t sure how I would cope with the final 13 miles. It was difficult running that far, especially the last few miles, but there is so much support it carries you through. It was such an amazing experience I signed up to the London Marathon 2024 ballot to see if I can take part again next year!’
Conor McClean member of the Lonsdale St Albans financial planning team continued:
‘It had always been a goal of mine to run a marathon and where better to choose than London. I was excited to be accepted to run the marathon and I had been training hard all winter. I chose to run for the Alzheimer’s Society as my grandmother suffered from Alzheimer’s before she passed away in 2019, and I’ve always raised money for this charity ever since. I think it’s great that Lonsdale Wealth Management also supports The Alzheimer’s Society, and it is our company’s charity of choice as it affects our families and clients’. We will be looking to do more fundraising challenges in the future. In July a team from Lonsdale Wealth Management will be walking the Peak District 100km challenge and fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society.’
Lonsdale Services work with the Alzheimer’s Society
Lonsdale Wealth Management has worked with the Alzheimer’s Society since 2017, when Lonsdale Services became the first financial adviser in Hertfordshire to become a corporate partner of the Alzheimer’s Society. In 2017 Allan Ross our independent financial adviser in Ware became a Dementia Friends Champions and we now have a Dementia Friend in most of our offices. In 2018 Lonsdale Services raised over £5000 for The Alzheimer’s Society through a series of organised fundraising activity.
More about the London Marathon
The London Marathon is held annually in London and was founded by Chris Brasher and John Disley in 1981. The London Marathon returned to its traditional spring slot in April 2023 when thousands of runners - amateurs and runners in fancy dress - ran through the capital. The course, which is relatively flat starts in Blackheath and finishes at The Mall and is set around the River Thames. As well as the race which the public enter there are professional races and elite level wheelchair races. Many of the participants fundraise for charity.
