Natalie Rispin, administrator and member of the Ware financial planning team was recently invited to attend the Inspirational Women Event at The Thomas Alleyne Academy in Stevenage.
Natalie spoke to the students about the role of the independent financial adviser and the administrators who support them.
According to the Thomas Alleyne Academy the recent event was the most successful to date. This was their 5th event and was set up in the format of a speed dating scenario. Professional women were invited to the Academy to talk to the year 9 girls about aspirations, career prospects and success.
50 professionals invited to speak to the Thomas Alleyne Academy students
The Academy was delighted to welcome 50 professionals from the community and beyond who gave up their time to inspire the young students. The value of this event was inspirational, hence its name, and students were given a biography for each attendee before the day and asked some relevant and interesting questions such as ‘what are the challenges you face in your role today?’ Issues faced by our wider society, and global challenges, were also discussed, and the students considered how these issues could affect their career choice.
What did the students discover about jobs and employment?
Students discovered that job roles evolve, and employability is affected by market and economic conditions. Students were given so much valuable information such as how to utilise their best skills, work hard for their qualifications and not to pressurise themselves too much if they did not at first succeed. How to overcome challenging circumstances and wellbeing were very topical. The professionals spoke of their qualifications and how they achieved them and also how they had overcome difficulties, such as maintaining continuing professional development, and opportunities for further study and retraining.
Natalie Rispin, Administrator in the Ware financial planning team, Hertfordshire said:
‘It was a very exciting day with a fantastic atmosphere enjoyed by all. I was delighted to be invited to talk to students about financial planning and how our qualified independent financial advisers offer financial planning advice to our clients in St Albans, Barnet, Ringwood, Stafford, Leeds, Ware and Harpenden. Within the financial planning industry there is currently more male financial advisers than female, so it is great that young female students are aware of what the financial adviser role entails and the other financial planning roles that exist. If we can encourage more women to train up as financial advisers, it will benefit everyone. As I mentioned to the students, we currently have independent financial adviser, Deb Nolan who manages our Leeds/Bradford office in Yorkshire and Amy Kadir our mortgage broker in St Albans, Hertfordshire. The students were given a wealth of career expertise and they really enjoyed chatting with the professionals that were invited. I really enjoyed meeting everyone and I am hoping to be invited back again to speak in 2020!”
